Eagles trade deadline tracker: Team must ‘hold on’; Division rival adds CB help

The NFL trade deadline has arrived, and the Eagles are in an unusual location. They could become buyers, looking to gain upside or depth at another position, they could be sellers, negotiating with a defensive player who is rumored to be a target for many teams, or they could do both .

During Monday’s episode of The Rich Eisen ShowNFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was asked about possible trades ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Pelissero said wide receivers and edge rushers will likely be the focus of many teams’ attention, which isn’t surprising given the demand for those positions this season. He mentioned defensive end Bryce Huff as a potential business candidate. Huff, who recorded 1.5 sacks, two hurries, one quarterback hit and five pressures in eight games this season, played just six snaps.

According to Over the hoodthe Eagles currently have $10.1 million in available cap space, giving them plenty of room to make a deal if they want to. But will they do it?

Here’s the latest news from the Eagles and the rest of the league as the trade deadline approaches:

The Eagles ultimately didn’t make a trade before the deadline. Bob Brookover of NJ Advance Media has more to read on here. The team also released an offensive player, which you can read about here.

The Eagles will “hold on”

NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports that the team will not reach a deal before the deadline.

“Note: The Eagles remain standing as we approach the deadline,” Anderson posted on X.

The move meant general manager Howie Roseman felt more confident in the players already on the roster than giving up an asset in the draft. The Eagles hope to flip Huff and he will become the 10-sack player he showed with the Jets last season. The acquisition of Jahan Dotson also showed that they weren’t going to add to the wide receiver room, especially after giving the Washington Commanders a third-round selection for him.

Another Edge Rusher has been distributed

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the surprise teams in the league this season, leading the AFC North. Their defense has been the main reason for their success, and they add another passer to join linebacker TJ Watt. According to NFL Network Ian RapoportThe Steelers acquired linebacker Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers for a seventh-round pick. Smith has 2.5 sacks this season, and he brings experience not only rushing the quarterback, but also covering flat zones and hook/loops when asked to drop back – skills that fit the scheme Steelers defense.

Eagles rival and division leader take steps to strengthen secondary

The team leading the NFC East decided to strengthen their secondary, paying a decent price to acquire it. The Commanders are sending a 2025 third-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for cornerback Marshon Lattimore and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

Lattimore has 30 tackles, two passes defended and has allowed a quarterback rating of 74.4. According to Pro Football Focus, when Lattimore faced the Eagles in Week 3, wide receiver DeVonta Smith was targeted twice, with Lattimore allowing just one catch for 14 yards. The Eagles will face him two more times, starting in Week 11 when they take on the Commanders on “Thursday Night Football.” The Saints appeared to be sellers after firing head coach Dennis Allen following a seven-game losing streak.

Eagles coordinator doesn’t believe in a trade

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked about the trade deadline and if he thought he would get a new player before the deadline. Fangio said that, from his perspective, it would be a quiet deadline.

“I haven’t heard that we’re involved in anything, so I guess we’re not involved in anything, and I’m happy with what we got and moving forward,” said Fangio.

With some of the moves that have already been made, there may not be many impact players that warrant using a big draft pick, especially at edge rusher now that Smith is not more on the table.

Cowboys acquire wide receiver

The Eagles’ next opponent, the Dallas Cowboys, are trying to turn their season around, hoping to add some offensive help to do so. According to NFL Network Tom Pelisserothe Cowboys sent a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 seventh-round pick. Mingo, a 2023 second-round pick of the Panthers, has 12 catches for 121 yards. Mingo’s speed can help stretch the field, but his inconsistency hasn’t yielded results yet, but the Cowboys are hoping a change of scenery will allow him to reach his potential.

Running back from potential playoff team dealt

The first trade of the day involved a team the Eagles faced two weeks ago and a team that was fighting not only for its division but also for a wild card spot. Cincinnati Bengals send 2025 seventh-round pick to Chicago Bears for running back Khalil Herbert. Zack Moss, a key part of the Bengals’ offense, suffered a neck injury that will likely force him to miss the remainder of the season, and Herbert’s presence should help stabilize the position alongside Chase Brown. The Bears, who are fighting to stay in the NFC North race and are still in the middle of a wild-card spot, are acquiring a Day 3 pick that will essentially be a lottery ticket, either using it to advance in the draft. or choose a developing player.

Lions replace Aiden Hutchinson

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Lions sent a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for edge rusher Za’Darius Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick. of someone to replace Aidan Hutchinson, who fractured his tibia and fibula and is out for the season, although he could return if the Lions reach the Super Bowl. Smith, 32, has five sacks this season. At 2-7, the Browns are struggling and looking to stockpile picks for a rebuild.
