Cohasset boys soccer crosses the Northeast and enters the division. 4 semi-finals

The win sends Cohasset (17-4-2) to its first state semifinal since 2019, where No. 4 East Boston (12-4-4) awaits at a date, time and location at determine.

“This team hasn’t won this game for four years, so it’s a big achievement,” Askjaer said. “I know there’s a lot left in the tank. I’m looking forward to the semi-finals.

Askjaer scored in the 13th minute, using his blazing speed and ball quality to overwhelm Northeast’s backline. Askjaer sprinted down the right side of the pitch and made a sharp cut inside, ripping the ball into the net with his left foot to give the Skippers a 1-0 advantage.

Cohasset doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Cian Casey collected a rebound at the far post and scored home to make it 2-0.

The Knights settled in and Jesus Martinez cut the score to 2-1 with a strike that found the bottom right corner in the 22nd minute.

Northeast had a golden opportunity to equalize nine minutes later after winning a penalty, but captain Gustavo Teixeira sent the ball well over the crossbar. This mistake proved costly.

Askjaer scored his second of the evening to make it 3-1 in the 50th minute with an effort even more impressive than his first. He placed a bouncing ball from 25 yards out and slammed it into the top right corner.

“I got the ball in the middle and shot it long, and (the goalkeeper) was off his line,” Askjaer said. “You want to keep the goalie on his toes. We attackers, when the goalkeeper plays a high line, we take it a little personally.

It was an exceptional goal, but after years of domination, the Skippers have gotten used to it. Askjaer has 25 goals this season and 59 in the last two years.

“Athletically, his power and speed are such that he’s really hard to contain for 80 minutes,” Cohasset coach Jim Willis said. “And if you do, luckily we have other guys who can make you pay for it.”

Martinez scored again to make it 3-2 in the 57th minute, but Casey responded with a goal three minutes later to restore Cohasset’s two-goal advantage. Then, with a few minutes left, Casey scored his third of the match – a strike from Askjaer.

“The goal all year was to be in the top four so we could host this game,” Willis said. “So pretty excited.”
