Flooding on State Route 99 near Red Bluff slows traffic, raises safety concerns

Just past the Highway 36 intersection in Red Bluff, State Route 99 experienced flooding that slowed traffic.

“In the past, what I’ve seen is I don’t have flooding here; I think it’s a little higher. But Cone Grove is affected, it’s flooded even with all the drains, it’s flooded right now,” said Red Bluff resident David Hart.

Although some flooded areas have receded slightly, residents expect the water to return to the road.

Caltrans controls traffic and warns drivers of flooded areas, but some people think they’re not doing enough.

According to a trader, the region already experiences many accidents and the weather is only making it more dangerous.

“The flood periods are too dangerous, but they are dangerous all the time, because the speed limit is 55 (and) everyone drives at 70 and Caltrans doesn’t do anything. It took us a lot of time to put up some sort of sign,” said Harsharngit Singh, who has owned a store in Tehama County for more than 20 years.
