High winds and dry conditions lead to safety power outages at Angel Peak, Kyle Canyon

NV Energy announced a planned power outage for residents living in Mt. Charleston, which includes Angel Peak and Kyle Canyon, due to high fire conditions in southern Nevada.

Public Safety Outage Management Monitoring (PSOM) serves approximately 466 NV Energy customers, from approximately 10 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 29.

PSOMs are a preventative measure taken by NV Energy to prevent a wildfire based on extreme weather criteria.

According to NV Energy, a PSOM monitoring means that certain weather conditions, including high winds, low humidity and heat, may require us to proactively de-energize equipment for the safety of our community and to prevent a possible house fire. forest.

Potentially affected customers in each area are being notified by phone, text, email and on the NV Energy website at nvenergy.com/psom.

This potential proactive outage will impact a small portion of NV Energy’s total customers in Southern Nevada and will be adjusted or canceled if weather conditions change.

The outage time frame includes the duration of the weather event and an estimate of how long it will take crews to turn off power before the event and inspect the lines for damage, vegetation or debris in order to begin to safely restore power once weather conditions stabilize.

Restoration time may change depending on weather conditions or if crews need to repair equipment.

A PSOM event is a key defense measure to help protect the community and environment from wildfires.

During a PSOM event, power is turned off for safety reasons to prevent power lines or debris thrown into power lines and other equipment from causing a wildfire when certain environmental conditions are met.

Additional information, including outage preparedness guidance, PSOM criteria, and maps of affected areas, is available. here.
