Oregon Ducks’ Dan Lanning wears boxing gloves to avoid penalties

THE No. 1 Oregon Ducks are traveling 2,000 miles to Madison, Wisconsin for a Big Ten game with the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, November 16 at 4:30 p.m. PT. This will be the first time Oregon coach Dan Lanning will travel to Madison, WI and Camp Randall Stadium.

This is a momentous matchup, as a win would put Oregon at 11-0 for just the second time in program history, joining the 2010 team.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning evaluated his teams’ practices as the Ducks prepare for the Badgers and the first-year starting quarterback Braedyn Locke.

Coach Lanning also addressed an injury update on the running back Jordan James and defensive end Jordan Burch.

“I just continue to evaluate them to see if they’re available,” Lanning said. “Those guys helped us out, so we’ll see what that looks like.

One of the main goals this week is to limit penalties. The Ducks committed 12 penalties for 95 yards against Maryland, both season records. Coach Lanning is pleased with the emphasis on eliminating penalties.

“We had five today,” Lanning said after Wednesday’s practice. “We had 13 last Wednesday, so it was cleaner. But it still could be cleaner than it is.

“(The secondary) wore boxing gloves all week. That helped,” Lanning said.

Lanning on motivating his team:

“The mundane is really important in our sport. You need to be able to do simple things consistently, over and over again. I think the challenge for you as a coach is how to make everyday life interesting. How can you continue to say we’re going to push and do really simple things, but still keep it fresh for our players? So that’s always our challenge.

Lanning with which coaches he studied motivational techniques:

“Anything and everything. We will shoot from anywhere, from anything we see, try to use it as motivation.

Lanning on attention to detail this week:

“Today’s training was much better than last Wednesday. But there is still plenty of room for growth.

Lanning on the impact of Oregon defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei:

“He’s a remarkable player. I had high expectations of him when he came here and he exceeded those expectations with the way he worked. It’s a very good room, the outside linebackers room. He certainly plays a big role in all of this. »

Lanning on biggest growth area over last eight games:

“I just play as a team. I play as a team in a unique way. I think there’s been a lot of growth in those moments of supporting each other – in moments. I think that shows consistently , whether it’s the offense bailing out the defense or the defense bailing out the offense or the special teams coming up with a big play and really focusing on the next play.”

Matayo Uiagalelei leads the team in sacks – what is his ceiling?

“He is incredibly talented. It starts there. And I think this room is really well framed, but he works really hard to take the details and execute them. He has a plan. Our entire front has a contingency plan every week and part of it is how do we attack it? The number one sacker in any league, in any division of football, is effort. You must therefore exert maximum effort in each race, because there is always someone to block you. You must overcome this blockage.

Lanning on what stands out about Wisconsin defensive lineman Elijah Hills:

Lanning: “Twitch. He has a great contraction. And I think again a lot of their production on defense, it’s hand in hand, it works together. Their coverage allows them to put pressure on right off the bat and they have guys that do really well in seeding games right off the bat.
