MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen has formed in the Caribbean.

This system is expected to move northward and become a tropical storm by Monday, passing near Jamaica overnight Monday and Tuesday. Tropical storm warnings are already in effect.

The system is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Tuesday evening as it passes through Cuba and enters the Gulf, before weakening as it enters the Gulf, where conditions remain less favorable for tropical activity .

Longer-term forecast models remain uncertain about the system’s path at the end of the week. Stay tuned to our First Alert Weather Team throughout the week for updates.
