The countdown to announcing the winner of the 2024 US presidential election is on and Donald Trump has already accused the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of electoral fraud.

Leveraging its social media platform Truth Social, the Republican presidential candidate alleged that “law enforcement is arriving” in the state’s largest city, although it did not provide further details or evidence.

He wrote on the siteappearing to refer to the US presidential election: “There is a lot of talk about massive cheating in Philadelphia. The police are arriving!!!”

However, city officials have denied Trump’s claims of election fraud, as Philadelphia police said. BBC Check that “there is no factual basis within law enforcement” to support his “wild” allegations.

Additionally, Republican Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluestein posted on X: “There is absolutely no truth to this allegation. This is yet another example of misinformation. Voting in Philadelphia took place safely.

He added: “We have been in regular contact with the RNC (Republican National Committee). We responded to every report of election irregularities to ensure Philadelphians could vote safely.

Polls in the state closed at 8 p.m. EST, and it may take at least 24 hours for enough votes to be counted to determine a winner. State voters voted for Trump in 2016, but moved back to the left in 2020 and voted for Joe Biden in the previous election.

The state is considered an anchor of the “Blue Wall,” which refers to a collection of states that voted Democratic without hesitation in recent presidential elections through 2012. Former President Trump overturned three blue wall states in 2016, including Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The three states account for 44 electoral votes, which is a significant percentage of the 93 electoral votes in the seven battleground states. These also include Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina. could potentially swing the results of the 2024 US presidential election.
