Rescue crews are working at the scene of an ultralight plane crash in a rural area southeast of Eveleth early Friday evening. According to a WDIO crew on scene, there is a large emergency vehicle response at the Ely Lake Airport. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m.

The Fayal Township Fire Chief said the pilot is a Fayal Township resident who has a hangar at the Eveleth-Virginia Airport, where he departed from. Chief Steve Shykes said the crash site was in the middle of a swamp and was difficult to access.

Authorities are with the pilot on scene and additional rescue personnel are on the way. The area is very wooded, which makes access to places difficult.
