Judge delays decision on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ bail until next week

NEW YORKLawyers for Sean “Diddy” Combs tried for a third time Friday to persuade a judge to let him out of jail while awaiting trial. sex trafficking trialbut a decision will not be made until next week.

Judge Arun Subramanian said during a hearing that he will make his ruling on Combs’ latest bail request after Combs’ attorneys and federal prosecutors file letters addressing the outstanding issues. Those letters are due Monday at noon, Subramanian said.

Combs’ lawyers proposed having him await trial under 24-hour surveillance, either at his mansion on an island near Miami Beach or — after the judge mocked the location — in an apartment in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Their plan essentially involves putting Combs under house arrest, with strict limits on who he has contact with. But prosecutors say Combs routinely flouted prison rules and cannot be trusted not to interfere with witnesses or the legal process.

“The argument that this is a lawless person not following instructions is not factually accurate,” argued Combs’ attorney, Anthony Ricco. “The idea that this is an out-of-control individual who needs to be detained is not factually accurate.”

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. women forced and abused for years with the help of a network of associates and employees, while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson, and physical beating. His trial is scheduled to begin May 5.

The Bad Boy Records founder remains incarcerated in a federal prison in Brooklyn, where he celebrated his birthday on November 4.

Two other judges had previously concluded that Combs would pose a danger to the community if released, and an appeals court judge last month denied Combs’ immediate release while a three-judge panel of the 2nd Court United States Appellate Body is evaluating his request for bail.

Raid on Diddy prison cells

Combs’ lawyers accuse federal prosecutors of editing video to misrepresent he attacked Cassie Ventura and claim agents illegally seized privileged documents from his Brooklyn jail cell that should be protected by attorney-client privilege.

They claim the raid, supposedly aimed at seizing drugs and weapons, was actually a cover to inspect personal legal memos. Prosecutors admitted to taking photos of 19 pages of those notes.

Tuesday, a judge prosecutors blocked to use as evidence documents seized from his cell during a prison-wide search for contraband and weapons at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

When will Diddy be released?

Two judges concluded that Combs would pose a threat to the community if released.

At a bail hearing last month, a $50 million bail offer, including home detention and electronic monitoring, was denied due to concerns that Combs might interfere with witnesses and obstruct the ‘investigation.
