Carragher urges Reds to consider midfield star they see as ‘the one’ amid desire for move

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool should once again go after Martin Zubimendi, who rejected the opportunity to join them this summer after believing he was ‘the one’.

Zubimendi has had the opportunity to join Premier League teams more than once in recent years. He said no to Arsenal, before Liverpool came for him this summer.

The Reds appeared to be making marks, before Zubimendi decided it was better to stay with Real Sociedad, the team the 25-year-old played for throughout his senior career.

But Liverpool legend Carragher believes they should go back given how perfect the club saw Zubimendi for them.

“This summer the focus has been on finding a deep number 6, with Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad set to join. Given the recruitment team has decided it’s him, why not revisit that interest and see if he can be persuaded to change his mind and move to England? » Carragher posed in the Telegraph.

He also believes a new defender capable of playing two positions will help Liverpool in their quest for silverware.

“Liverpool also need another defender. I have been saying for a few years that the club needs a versatile defender on the left – someone who can replace Andrew Robertson or play in central defense without weakening the backline,” added Carragher.

Zubimendi ready to go

Carragher suggested that Zubimendi could potentially be persuaded to move to Liverpool, and it looks like that could be the case.

In September it was reported that the Spaniard had regrets not having moved this summerand would be open to development in the future.

TEAMtalk, meanwhile, are aware that Liverpool are indeed planning to test the waters again.

As such, it appears that the expert may be right.

Liverpool recap: Recent departure signing didn’t happen

Recent reports suggest that Federico Chiesa, only signed by Liverpool this summer, could be allowed to return to Italy for the second half of this season.

However, TEAMtalk can confirm that it is it is unlikely that he will be allowed to leavewith the winger focused on showing Arne Slot that he can be the long-term replacement for the potentially departing Mohamed Salah.

Star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit chances appear to be increasing. Real Madrid reportedly believe they have made significant progress regarding the signing following positive discussions with the right-back in recent times.

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones has suggested he won’t be going anywhere himself, admitting he had thought in the past he might have to leave Anfield, but that is no longer the case.

Zubimendi better than Endo

Zubimendi would compete with Endo and Ryan Gravenberch for a place in front of the Liverpool defense.

The Sociedad man has better offensive power than Endo, and although some statistics in terms of distribution and defensive abilities are the same, he cuts off attacks more often than the current Liverpool midfielder.
