The Mazda CX-60 has been spotted in Malaysia ahead of its planned launch here, as suggested MIDF Search in December last year. First introduced globally in March 2022The CX-60 is the brand’s first SUV to be built on the Skyactiv multi-solution scalable architecture with a longitudinal front-engine layout and rear-wheel drive.

It’s unclear which powertrains are used by these thinly disguised units seen in the photos, although there are a few possibilities if we look at neighboring markets that have already welcomed the SUV. In the Philippinesthe CX-60 is offered with a turbocharged inline-six gasoline or turbodiesel engine, both with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Both engines have an identical displacement of 3.3 liters, with the petrol unit developing 284 hp (280 hp or 209 kW) and 450 Nm of torque, while the diesel develops 254 hp (251 hp or 187 kW) and 550 Nm. Mazda 48-volt M Hybrid Boost mild hybrid system with a 0.33 kWh lithium-ion battery as well as a small electric motor rated at 16 hp (16 hp or 12 kW) and 153 Nm is standard and is located between the engine and the transmission.

As for Singaporethe model is only equipped with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated in-line four-cylinder gasoline engine developing 191 hp (189 hp or 141 kW) and 261 Nm. This exclusively drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and no mild hybrid system is present.

Indonesia got the CX-60 in July last year after Singapore and the Philippines, with the country getting two trim levels but only one powertrain, which is the same mild-hybrid 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six found in the Philippines. The CX-60 is also available with a plug-in hybrid system, the brand’s first, with 327 PS (323 hp or 241 kW) and 500 Nm, although this will not be offered in Southeast Asian markets mentioned above.

For those curious where the CX-60 fits in the Mazda range, it measures 4740-4745mm long, 1890mm wide, 1670-1685mm high and the wheelbase is extends over 2,870 mm. This places the five-seat SUV right in the middle of its two-row compatriot, the CX-5 (4,575 mm long, 2,700 mm wheelbase) and the three-row model CX-8 (4,900 mm length, 2,930 mm wheelbase).

Are you looking forward to the arrival of the CX-60? What powertrains do you hope will be offered here? More importantly, how much do you think the high-end SUV will cost? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
