In their first title defense since finally becoming AEW World Tag Team Champions last month, Private Party defeated The Outrunners, Kings of the Black Throne and The Acclaimed in a four-way tag team match to retain the titles at Full Gear on Saturday night.

In a chaotic melee, Private Party emerged victorious after Turbo Floyd of the Outrunners disrupted a potential victory for The Acclaimed, creating the opening for Private Party to hit Gin n’ Juice and pin The Acclaimed for the victory.

Despite being AEW originals from 2019, Private Party never managed to capture gold until the Fright Night edition of Dynamite on October 30.

After narrowly falling short in an AEW World Tag Team Championship match against The Young Bucks at WrestleDream, Quen and Zay were given another chance a few weeks later.

Private Party seized this opportunity by defeating The Young Bucks, and they even earned the respect of the EVPs in the process, as Matt and Nick Jackson hugged them at the end of the fight.

In many ways, it was a full circle for Quen and Zay, who shocked the Young Bucks in the first round of the tournament to crown the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions in 2019.

Following Private Party’s huge victory, a series of #1 contenders’ matches took place to determine who they would defend the titles against at Full Gear.

To qualify for the title match, The Outrunners defeated Top Flight, Kings of the Black Throne upset FTR, and The Acclaimed defeated Rush and The Beast Mortos de La Facción Ingobernable.

Considering the long and difficult road Private Party had to travel to become champion, perhaps it was fitting that their first title defense came against three of the best teams AEW has to offer.

As Private Party was until recently, The Outrunners and Kings of the Black Throne entered Full Gear aiming to become AEW World Champions for the first time, while The Acclaimed attempted to become multiple-time champions.

Despite the high level of competition that awaits them, Private Party were victorious on Saturday, and they are now poised to potentially enjoy a long and successful first reign as tag team champions.
