San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined Bay Area radio station KNBR Thursday afternoon, where he was asked about the running back’s status. Christian McCaffrey. Shanahan expressed optimism about McCaffrey’s progress, noting that he feels good about his potential return.

McCaffrey, sidelined by Achilles tendinitis, has yet to make his debut in the 2024 season. However, it appears increasingly likely that he will play in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.

The 49ers opened McCaffrey’s practice window this week, hinting they could get him off injured reserve in time for the weekend’s game.

“I feel good one way or another,” Shanahan joked, trying to avoid revealing too much about McCaffrey’s availability. “It’s been a good two days. I’m just messing around, but he’s been great the last two days, so I hope it continues to go well and I hope he’s out there.

“You never know if there’s a setback or anything, but it’s been a great two days and I’m looking forward to seeing him there.”

The 49ers, who currently hold a 4-4 record, are aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this season after beating the Dallas Cowboys before their bye week.
