India, China begin troop disengagement in eastern Ladakh after historic truce

Following the historic truce between India and China, troop disengagement has begun at two friction points in eastern Ladakh: the Demchok and Depsang plains. The move follows negotiations to resolve the military standoff that began in 2020. Indian forces are methodically removing their equipment, with officials noting that one tent on each side has already been dismantled. On October 21, India announced an important agreement on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the consensus on restoring stability, while Prime Minister Modi welcomed the agreement during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit.
