“I concede this election, I do not concede the fight”

WASHINGTONVice President Kamala Harris spoke from Howard University, her alma mater, after calling the presidential race for former President Donald Trump Wednesday morning.

Harris called Trump to concede and congratulate him Wednesday afternoon. She also invited Trump to the White House to discuss the transition, the Associated Press reports, and to emphasize the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.

Speaking to the crowd at Howard, Harris said she fully accepted the results of the election.

“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted. It’s not what we fought for. It’s not what we voted for,” Harris said. “But there when I say, the light of America’s promise will always shine.”

“Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we would help him and his team with their transition and that we would engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” she added.

The White House also said a date would be set in the “near future” for Biden to address the nation following the election results.

Trump was first declared the winner of the presidential election by FOX News at 1:46 a.m. He secured the 270 electoral votes needed to retake the White House with his victory in Wisconsin, announced just after 5:30 a.m.

Harris did not speak at her college watch party Tuesday night. As Trump racked up electoral votes Tuesday night, Cedric Richmond, Harris’ campaign co-chairman, addressed his rally at Howard.

“You won’t hear from the Vice President tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow. She will be back here tomorrow, speaking not only to the HU family, not only to her supporters, but also to the nation.” , Richmond said. said.

But when Harris spoke to the crowd Wednesday, she came out excited, smiling to a crowd that maintained high energy for the vice president despite the defeat.

“While I recognize this election, I do not recognize the fight that fueled this campaign,” Harris said to loud cheers. “I will never give up the fight for one America.”

She then spoke directly to the many young Americans who invaded Howard’s campus Tuesday and Wednesday.

“For the young people watching, it’s okay to feel sad and disappointed, but know that everything will be okay,” Harris said.

And then she spoke to her millions of supporters who were looking the other way.

“To all those watching, do not despair. This is not the time to give up, it is the time to roll up our sleeves. It is the time to organize, to mobilize, to stay committed for the sake of freedom, of justice, for the future that we can build together,” she declared.

Harris concluded her speech with a message of positivity, encouraging her supporters to remain hopeful in “the extraordinary promise of the United States of America.”
