Holby City star announces sudden retirement after ‘really tough’ three years | Television and radio | Showbiz and television

Holby City star Rosie Marcel has revealed she has officially retired from acting after a long and successful career.

The 47-year-old actress, best known for her role as Jac Naylor in the series BBC medical drama, continued in the role until the series finale in 2022, when Jac’s character tragically died from a brain tumor.

Now, Rosie has opened up about her decision to quit acting altogether.

In a candid statement, the actress shared her thoughts on retirement. She took to Instagram to write, “Well, I guess it’s there now.” It’s no longer a secret that I’m retired. Go to Metro online and read Calli Kitsons’ lovely article.

“I’m pretty sure I didn’t say ‘whatever’ too much… and surely I’m more erudite than that?? Or maybe retirement and the dreaded menopause have indeed arrived!!

“Anyway. I’m happy. Really happy. It’s been a pleasure and a journey. I’ve given my part. I’m happy with what I’m putting out into the world. Thrilled with some great achievements. I’ve made myself very good friends. I have lost loved ones. I have lost my mind many times but I have always found it. I have given and received a lot of kindness. .I laughed more than I should have on the plateau. I haven’t laughed enough. What a great life I’ve had. Ready to be just me now.

According to the Metro, Marcel revealed that despite her attempts to take on new roles, no one had offered her another acting job.

She told the publication: “I won’t lie, it’s been a really tough three and a half years. I didn’t have a single job and it was really, really hard. I guess a lot of it is because people can’t see past Jac. I think a lot of it is my age, I think it’s my gender.

“I have decided to retire. So I retired in May. In all honesty, so much changed in our lives in that time: my husband’s gym burned down, obviously I lost my job, Ben almost died, I lost a few babies, I was caught in a terrible accident on the A41, another accident with a guy who had been stabbed by his son. It’s just that three crazy years have happened.

Adding: “And also not getting a job, and getting to the bottom two for certain things, which was lovely and all, but the reality of going up for a Netflix work and knowing that I was up against 6,000 other people really forced my hand in some ways.

Rosie’s fans flooded the comments section to support the star in her decision. One person said: “The most important thing is that you are happy, Rosie. It’s definitely the acting world’s loss, but if you’re happy, that’s the main thing.

A second person wrote: “I love you so, so, so much.” A third person said: “I’m sad, but also happy for you. Enjoy everything life brings you.
