York voters reject ordinance limiting where distilleries can be built

YORK (WGME) – In York, an ordinance requiring distilleries to be 400 feet from homes and on at least 25 acres of land will not pass.

More than 60 percent of voters rejected the ordinance.

This was in response to the Wiggly Bridge Distillery company, which wants to build two more whiskey houses in the area.

Neighbors brushed off concerns about whiskey fungus, which feeds and grows on alcohol fumes.

Neighbors say it has already appeared in several areas.

The company argued that this was a direct attempt to block the company’s expansion.
