Election Day is Tuesday: What you need to know

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Here’s what you need to know to vote.

When are polling stations open on election day?

In Texas, polls are open from 7 a.m. on Election Day until 7 p.m. Anyone in line when polls close will be allowed to vote.

North Texas Polling Locations

Any registered voter who has not voted early will be able to vote in person on November 5, 2024. Anyone living in the following counties can vote at any polling place in the county where they reside.

To check in your specific county, visit Am I registered portal on the Secretary of State website. It will list the places where you can vote.

If you live and are registered in the following counties, you will need to vote in your assigned precinct.

The voting location assigned to you depends on your place of residence. Visit your county elections page for polling locations and sample ballots.

You can also find polling locations on election day by visiting state web pagewhich will be populated with voting sites a few days before Election Day. Or, you may wish to contact the Election Officer for State and County Elections in your county.

Do I need ID to vote in Texas?

In order to vote in person during early voting or on Election Day, Texas voters will be asked to present an acceptable photo ID. Here is a list of acceptable forms of photo ID:

  • Texas Driver’s License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Voter ID Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas Personal ID Card issued by DPS
  • Texas Handgun License Issued by DPS
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • Certificate of American citizenship containing the person’s photograph
  • United States passport (book or card)

The following is a list of supporting identification documents that may be presented if the voter does not have acceptable photo identification and cannot reasonably obtain one:

  • Copy or original of a government document showing the voter’s name and address, including the voter registration certificate
  • Copy of current or original utility bill
  • Copy or original bank statement
  • Copy or original of government check
  • Copy or original paycheck
  • Copy or original of (a) a certified domestic birth certificate (from a U.S. state or territory) or (b) a document confirming qualifying birth in a court that establishes the identity of the voter (who may include a foreign birth certificate)
