How long has Paolo Banchero been out? Oblique Injury Timeline, Return Date, Latest Updates on Magic Star

Paolo Banchero’s dream start to the 2024-25 campaign came to a quick and sudden halt on Thursday.

The Magic had a supernova first five games of the year, highlighted by a 50-point outburst in a 119-115 victory over the Pacers on October 28.

But on October 31, Orlando announced that Banchero would be out indefinitely due to a right oblique injury.

Here’s what you need to know about Banchero’s latest injury.

What is Paolo Banchero’s injury?

Banchero was diagnosed with a right oblique tear, the team announced Thursday (Oct. 31).

He was injured during the fourth quarter of the Magic’s 102-99 loss to the Bulls the night before.

Banchero averaged 29.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists on 49.5 percent shooting to start the year. The 21-year-old became the second youngest player in NBA history to drop at least 50 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a single game, beaten only by LeBron James (20 years and 80 days).

Banchero’s absence weakens a Magic team that currently sits in fourth place in the East, two games behind the first-place Cavaliers. Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Wendell Carter Jr. will likely be asked to carry the scoring load for now.

How long has Paolo Banchero been out?

The Magic announced that Banchero is out indefinitely. He will be evaluated in four to six weeks, with a potential return around the end of November at the earliest and around Christmas at the latest, barring any setbacks. His return to the field will be dictated by how his injury responds to treatment.

Orlando is scheduled to play 16 games in November. Given the reevaluation schedule set by the team, he could very well miss all of these competitions.
