Semi-trailer crash and downed poles blocking lanes of Kailua Road heading towards Kailua

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Cleanup is underway after a crash involving a tractor-trailer that downed several poles and damaged a home Tuesday.

It happened around 1 p.m. in the lanes of Kailua Road toward Kailua, near Kalanianaole Highway and Adventist Health Castle Hospital.

All lanes of Kailua Road toward Kailua are closed between Kalanianaole Highway and Uluoa Street.

The accident caused a pole to fall on the roof of Rheanna Stancil-Williams’ home. She said she was out to lunch with her family when it happened.

“We were actually just coming back from Windward Mall, and as we were driving up Kailua Road, we noticed the poles near the park. And then, as we were passing by, we noticed the pole on our house,” she said.

Stancil-Williams said his roof is now damaged.

“The post sits on our gutter and you can see it recessed into the roof a little bit,” she said. “There is a pole sticking out from the utility pole that got caught on our wall, which contributed to the impact of it completely crushing on our roof.

“We didn’t suffer the consequences when we were at home, so we’re very lucky,” Stancil-Williams said.

The truck belongs to Reyes Beverage Group. The company said in a statement:

“We are aware of an incident that occurred earlier today on Oahu involving one of our trucks. We are grateful that no one was injured and are working closely with local authorities to investigate this matter. We will take appropriate action based on our findings.

It is unclear what caused the accident.
