DUNWOODY, Ga. – Starting Monday, Perimeter Mall will begin charging for parking in approximately 300 spaces near its main entrance. This new policy affects a fraction of the mall’s 7,000 parking spaces and will cost $2 an hour, with a maximum daily rate of $10.

In an effort to give back to the community, mall management Brookfield Properties said one dollar from each parking fee would be donated to Fur Kids, a local animal rescue organization.

Officials say this isn’t necessarily a permanent or temporary change, but something they’re trying for now to see how it goes.

Signs have been placed around the designated area to help inform customers about the payment process.

Perimeter Mall, a popular shopping destination in the Atlanta area, is among the first in the region to introduce paid parking. Several studies follow a slight increase in traffic in shopping centers for the first time in a decade.
