Adams County election officials prepare voters for Election Day

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The 2024 election is just one day away and the Adams County Election Office is preparing its voters for an expected huge turnout for this year’s election.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office, 332,455 registered voters in Nebraska successfully cast ballots in the Nov. 5 general election.

Bob Evnen, Nebraska’s secretary of state, said he predicts turnout for Nebraska’s 2024 general election will be around 72%. For that reason, Adams County election officials said their voters should prepare for the chaotic day.

Ramona Thomas, Adams County Election Commissioner, said she has already seen a huge turnout for early voting.

“We’re just under 5,000 early voters who have requested early voting and we’re waiting for about 300 of those ballots to come back,” Thomas said.

Thomas said because of the high stakes of this year’s voting and presidential election, it’s driving more voters to the polls.

“You have to remember that there is no election hearing at the polling place,” Thomas said. “This includes wearing clothing that supports a particular candidate or issue, which is not allowed. You will be asked to remove it, also perhaps speak while you are waiting in line, please , just keep the conversation general, don’t talk about the issues.

Thomas said voters can drop off their early ballots via the drop box located near the south doors of the Adams County Courthouse, or can go through it in their office. She said voters shouldn’t mail it at this point, the postmark date won’t be relevant, so just make sure you receive it.

All ballots must be dropped off at your local polling station by 8 p.m. on November 5. For more information on what you need before heading to the polls, please use CSKNB Local 4 Voter’s Guide.
