STONE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT/KATV) – Law enforcement in Stone County is searching for the wreckage of a small plane.

According to content partner KATVVan Buren County Judge Dale James said the crash was reported Tuesday afternoon in the northern part of the county.

The dispatch learned around 2 p.m. that the plane had an engine problem. When trying to contact the plane, they received a few pings but no response.

The plane was heading from Fayetteville to Mississippi, with only the pilot on board.

Forestry officials assisted Van Buren County in the search, using a drone due to the difficult-to-navigate terrain.

At 9:26 p.m., the search moved to Stone County.
