Jordan Chiles’ shocking revelation amid Olympic controversy

Jordan Chiles broke down in an emotional interview amid the Controversy over the Paris 2024 Olympics when asked to return his bronze medal. The gymnast spoke to Hoda Kotb on the Nov. 11 episode of the “Today” show about how she emotional well-being is in the middle of controversy.

“Honestly, it was really, really hard to understand everything that was going on,” Chiles said. “Finally now I feel comfortable, in a way, talking about what happened. I feel like I’ve been trying to tell myself that I’m okay recently, over the last four or five months, and honestly it’s been a very, very difficult time.

She explained how frustrating it was for her during this time to go back and forth with officials knowing the truth about this matter.

“It’s hard to tell yourself everything will be okay when you know we haven’t done anything wrong,” she said. “Everything was going very well. Everything was on time, and for them to come back and say it was four seconds late when we had proof. We have everything that can really show that everything was okay.

“I thought, ‘OK, I can’t control what’s going on outside. I can only control my truth,” Chiles shared through tears. “I know what the truth is and I know we were right in everything we did.”

Chiles also shocked fans when she admitted where the bronze medal is currently located.

“I have the medal,” she said. “The medal is mine.”

Chiles made headlines during the Olympics after placing fifth in the women’s floor final. and later third after his coach Cécile Landi requested an investigation into the scores. The new score was honored at the time and Chiles received the bronze medal, creating the first all-black podium in gymnastics history, with teammate Simone Biles taking silver and Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade taking silver. head with gold.

“It was an all-black podium, it made history,” Chiles said. “It was something I was very proud to be a part of.”

There were heated exchanges between the United States defending Chile and Romania demanding that the investigation be canceled to result in a victory for Ana Barbosu. After weeks of evidence and statements from both sides of the issue, it was finalized that Barbosu would be the official bronze medal bearer.

While this is discouraging news for Chiles and her supporters, she is still focused on healing as the the next Olympic Games will take place in Los Angeles in 2028.

“LA is on my mind and off my mind,” she said. “I think right now I’m just trying to understand what happened in Paris and trying to take it day by day.”
