NBA admits big missed call in Warriors-Celtics game

The Golden State Warriors picked up a very impressive victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. While the defending champions were without reigning Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, they still had Jayson Tatum and several other very talented players on their full roster.

Golden State was led by Steph Curry who scored a season-high 27 points in the victory. Andrew Wiggins and Buddy Hield added 16 points each, while Lindy Waters III and Jonathan Kuminga were each in double figures coming off the bench.

Once again showing their depth, the Warriors won this match thanks to a collective effort from top to bottom of their squad.

Because this game went to the end, the NBA issued a Last two minutes report this explains several calls after no calls in the last two minutes. Although the report for the last two minutes was mostly clean, it did contain one big missed call.

According to the NBA, Warriors center Kevon Looney should have been called for a shooting foul against Jayson Tatum with 1:09 left.

“Looney (GSW) steps back and lands on Tatum’s (BOS) foot, initiating contact that affects his jump shot motion,” the NBA wrote.

Tatum was very unhappy with the non-call, slapping his hands at the nearest referee as he ran back up the court. If it had been called correctly, Tatum would have gone to the free throw line for two shots and his team would be down 108-104.

Instead, the Warriors got a rebound that led to Buddy Hield’s third dagger on the other end.

There’s no way to know if Tatum getting free throws with 1:08 left would have changed the outcome of the game, but it was undoubtedly a huge botch on the part of the officials.
