SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah prison inmate whose story was reported by the FOX 13 Investigative Team last week has died.

The Utah Department of Corrections said Michael Bueno was taken off life support and died Saturday. He attempted suicide on November 11 at the Salt Lake City jail.

Bueno is the second suicide of an inmate in two weeks at the prisonwhich opened in 2022 and cost $1 billion.

Both families said their loved ones asked for more mental health assistance at the jail and did not receive it.

The Department of Corrections’ medical director told FOX 13 tests will be conducted.

Bueno was 44 years old and serving time for sodomy. His family said his organs would be donated.
