Police search for 2 ‘robbery by deception’ suspects in San Fernando Valley

LOS ANGELES (KABC)– Police are urging San Fernando Valley residents to keep an eye out for two suspects behind a string of “hoax thefts.”

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, detectives have noticed an increase in this type of crime in the area.

The two suspects — described only as a man and woman between 30 and 50 years old — primarily target victims in parking lots as they walk to and from their vehicles, according to police.

Both also travel in SUVs or minivans. Police said the suspects would stay in their vehicles and ask victims for directions or strike up a seemingly friendly conversation.

They say remarks such as “Today is a holy day and I must…” or “Today is my birthday and I want to share…”

Police said the suspects would then reach through the open window and shake or shake the victim’s hand.

“During this encounter, the suspect places fake gold jewelry and removes the victim’s diamond necklaces, rings and high-end watches without the victim immediately noticing,” the police said. police.

These crimes occurred throughout the city of Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
