Olivia Nuzzi is withdrawing her request for a protection order against her former fiancé, her lawyer confirms to PEOPLE.

THE ancient new York magazine journalist had previously filed a motion on September 30, alleging that Ryan Lizza stole and hacked his personal information and I tried to blackmail her back in a relationship after their engagement ended. Their engagement was called off after Lizza discovered her alleged “personal relationship” with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Nuzzi also claimed that Lizza leaked details to the media.

On Friday, November 8, Nuzzi filed a motion to withdraw his claims.

Her lawyer, Ari Wilkenfeld, confirmed the decision in a statement, telling PEOPLE: “Ms. Nuzzi has no interest in waging a public relations battle.”

Nuzzi further explained his decision in a statement included in his petition, obtained by PEOPLE.

She called her initial request for a protection order a “last resort” to “extract herself from a controlling and abusive relationship.” She hoped the order would force Lizza to “cease harassing and harming her through defamatory advertising and the circulation of hacked, stolen and/or falsified materials relating to her.”

She also wanted Lizza to be ordered not to commit or threaten to commit crimes against her, later adding that her “campaign of harassment has intensified” since she requested a protection order. She said she would move forward by “opting out of this process,” asking that her petition be denied.

Lizza also responded to Nuzzi’s decision, telling PEOPLE: “Olivia shamelessly used litigation with false and defamatory allegations as a public relations strategy. When asked to do so, she refused to defend her claims in court last month. »

He accused her of allegedly trying to hide her response to his allegations from the public, adding: “Now, on the eve of a hearing in which she knew her lies would be exposed, she chose the only path who offered himself to her and withdrew his fabricated assertions.

He then referenced Nuzzi’s alleged relationship with Kennedy, which reportedly lasted a year before he found out.

“Olivia lied to me for almost a year. She lied to her editors. She lied to her readers. She lied to her colleagues. She lied to reporters. And she lied to the judge in this case. I said I would defend myself against her lie vigorously and successfully and I am more than willing to do so. But for now, I am happy that this case is closed.

Reports of a relationship between Nuzzi and Kennedy, who married Cheryl Hines in 2014, first surfaced in September, nearly a year after she interviewed him for a November 2023 profile. In court documents filed last month, Lizza denied Nuzzi’s blackmail and hacking allegations as “defamatory lies”.

Although Nuzzi previously said his relationship with Kennedy was “not sexual” and should have been “disclosed,” a rep for Kennedy previously claimed he only met Nuzzi once “for an interview that she had requested, which had resulted in a successful article”.

Nuzzi and Lizza were due back in court this month before she denied his requests.
