The world of entertainment has become increasingly diverse and open over the past few decades. Where there were once strict barriers between fields of work such as theater and film or between actors, producers and directors, the boundaries are now much more malleable. Far more common are multi-hyphenate creators such as Donald Glover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge or Michaela Coel, who produce, direct and star in their works, helping to carve out a unique place in the entertainment landscape. One such multi-talented modern entertainment creator is Kirsten Comerforda stage and screen actor who has enjoyed immense success in recent years.

In Comerford’s own words: “I consider myself a storyteller.” Growing up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, a place known for its vibrant arts scene and rich stories, Comerford spent a lot of time hearing stories about his hometown during the war and the history of Terre- New.

Early on, she discovered that ballet was an incredibly powerful means of expression. Soon after, her love of ballet transformed into a desire to do theater and then film. One of Comerford’s first stage experiences as an actor was in the original workshop of the hit Broadway musical. Come from far away. Located in Newfoundland, Come from far away was the onstage culmination of all those stories that Comerford had spent her youth being so inspired by. It remains “one of my most valuable experiences in the industry,” she says.

From Come from far awayWhen the series ended, Comerford worked as a professional actor and faced all of the unique challenges and difficulties that come with those roles. “Constant rejection is something you definitely need to have thick skin for. I think it took me a while to develop. It is important to separate yourself and your art and activities. Acting is so personal; you’re sharing yourself, it’s vulnerable, these are real truths that you’re commenting on through your work, and so it can be a challenge to see it as a business and not a personal rejection.

But despite all of this, Comerford persevered and found success on his own terms. She produced and starred in a short film that won the audience award at a comedy film festival. In addition to this short film, Comerford established a connection and collaboration with Roxanne Boisvert, a powerhouse director, who has collaborated with her on several produced projects.

As Comerford says: “During my time in the industry, I have worked on many sets and met many talented people, but it wasn’t until I had the privilege of collaborating with Roxanne Boisvert that I truly experienced a transformative change in my career. trajectory – a trajectory that left a huge mark on my path forward.

In Boisvert, Comerford found a director and collaborator who “possesses an innate ability to establish deep connections with actors.” Under his direction, Comerford took on his first leading role in a feature film. She notes: “I felt confident in the work I had done and was free to take risks and immerse myself in the character. It was extremely collaborative, and feeling like my contribution was valued was a pivotal moment for me in my career.

Having now made several films with Boisvert, Comerford finds that she has been able to embrace her own role “not only as an actress but also as a burgeoning creative force in the industry.” This pursuit of acting not only allowed me to explore new avenues of expression, but also solidified my status as a talent to watch, ready to innovate and collaborate in an ever-changing landscape.
