Fraternal Order of Police Concerned About Lack of Outdoor Carrying Vest Issued by CMPD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Union has called out the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for allegedly silencing officers, who are still waiting for their exterior carrying vests.

It has been three months since the decision to allow agents to go where outside carriers are assigned. Charlotte Fraternal Order of Police President Dan Redford says the majority of CMPD officers not only don’t have the new vests, but they haven’t even been fitted for them.
The president of the Fraternal Order of Police says he pressured police over the vests. Redford claims that Chief Johnny Jennings retaliated by excluding the Fraternal Order.

“Now that we’ve won, we still don’t have these vests. There are very, very few officers who have been issued this vest. They say it’s a manufacturer problem,” Redford said.

CMPD has not yet responded to WCCB’s questions regarding the silencing of employees. The WCCB asked for the number of outer vests issued to officers.
