Storms and flooding possible in Maui, Hawaii island starting Monday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Your First Alert Weather Team said First Alert Weather Days Monday and Tuesday for the islands of Maui and Hawaii.

A flood watch has been issued for these islands from Sunday evening until Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the flood watch would be in effect from 4 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

7 day forecast

A flood watch means that conditions will be present that could produce flash flooding. Low lying areas and roads prone to flooding may be closed during heavy rain due to runoff.

Rapid runoff could also cause property damage in more populated areas.

A plume of deep tropical moisture will be introduced through a trough to the south of the state. This will combine with an upper-level disturbance to bring heavy showers and the potential for isolated thunderstorms.

The threat of heavy rain will be highest in the windward parts of the islands.
