Pan-Mass Challenge Raises $75 Million in 2024, Surpassing $1 Billion for Cancer Research Since 1980

BOSTON (AP) — This year’s Pan-Mass Challenge raised $75 million for cancer research and treatment, putting the charity bike ride across the state more than a billion dollars since 1980.

“PMC’s donation this year marks an incredible milestone in its 45-year history,” said Billy Starr, founder and executive director of PMC. “We have demonstrated the impact that cycling and fundraising can have together, but our work is not done. We’re aiming for the next billion as we move towards a cancer-free world.

A total of 6,800 riders, supported by 3,500 volunteers, cycled up to 211 miles across Massachusetts in August as part of the world’s largest sports fundraiser. The PMC is the largest contributor to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to fund research and build new facilities.

“As a PMC driver for six years, I share the enthusiasm of all involved,” said Benjamin L. Ebert, president and CEO of Dana-Faber. “And as a researcher, I see the impact on research and patient care of the funds raised every day by this community. »
