Mining Company Unveils Battery Charger Capable of Stunning Feats with Heavy Equipment: “An Important Step Forward”

A huge new battery charger promises to power massive vehicles in an incredibly short time.

According to Electrekmining company Fortescue has unveiled a new six-megawatt charger designed to power its giant haulage truck’s massive 1,900-kilowatt battery in just 30 minutes.

The charger was part of a $4 billion electrical equipment deal between Fortescue and equipment company Liebherr, which will eventually see 475 all-electric devices from Liebherr electric vehicles delivered to the mining company.

“We are proud to have facilitated the largest equipment transaction in the 75-year history of the Liebherr Group. Especially since the expansion of our collaboration with Fortescue is an important step in our common goal of decarbonizing mining activities worldwide,” said Dr. Jörg Lukowski, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing at Liebherr.

This agreement is a major step in Fortescue’s plan to become completely carbon neutral in its iron ore mining operations in Australia.

Both of these companies have recently made headlines for their commitment to green energy; recently, they also revealed a driverless electric transport truck that has started to be deployed at the Australian Fortescue dig sites. Meanwhile, the deployment of Caterpillar’s all-electric dump trucks has begin in Brazil in nickel, copper and manganese mines. And Komatsu has also debuted its own all-electric range of heavy mining and construction equipment.

“THE technology developed under this record-breaking agreement will not only help our customers along their decarbonization journey, but will also help us deliver on our commitment to providing completely fossil fuel-free transportation, loading and pushback solutions by end of the decade,” Lukowski said. “In fact, in the coming years, (we) will be able to offer more industry customers a proven, large-scale zero-emission mining ecosystem.”

According to Global datathe metallurgical and mining industry is responsible for 4 to 7% of global gas pollution which contributes to global warming. These emissions lead to extreme weather conditionsfood shortages and even more catastrophic effects. However, recent technological developments make it clear that the industry is committed to reducing its carbon footprint sooner rather than later.
