Paul Mescal Addresses Fan Theory That Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones and Gladiator II Co-Star Joseph Quinn Are Lookalikes

Paul Mescal has spoken out on a hilarious fan theory that Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn are lookalikes.

The duo sent the internet into a frenzy in recent days as fans noticed an unlikely but uncanny resemblance between Daisy, 26, and Joseph, 30.

Social media users have noticed how similar the two men’s facial features are, commenting that they are “lookalikes” and should play siblings in a film.

Now Paul – who starred in Normal People with Daisy and Gladiator II with Joseph – has broken his silence on the fun trend, giving it his full support.

The 28-year-old actor insisted he saw the similarity between his two co-stars long before the theories emerged online, but said Stranger Things star Joseph was not not convinced.

“We talked about it in an interview the other day and he wasn’t convinced,” he said. Marie Claire Australia.

“I was like, I’m glad the Internet is reassuring me that they look alike.”

Paul also said he would be “lucky” to play alongside Daisy again when asked if she might join the Gladiator franchise as Joseph’s brother in the future.

Daisy herself even addressed the funny memes online and admitted that fans often tell her she looks like Joseph.

“I wasn’t confused with Joe Quinn,” she told Josh Horowitz while promoting his film Twisters earlier this year.

“But people have told me I look like a female Joe Quinn. I see that.

Fans took to social media in recent days to joke that Paul had a clause in his film contracts that one of his co-stars always had to look like Daisy.

The tongue-in-cheek theories swirled as fans noticed how much Joseph – who plays the evil Emperor Geta in Gladiator II – resembles Paul’s former co-star Daisy.

“Mescal had in his contract that at least one actor had to look like Daisy Edgar-Jones,” one joked.

Another joked: “Joe Quinn grew his facial hair so he wouldn’t be confused with Daisy Edgar-Jones.”

“Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn come from the same clone pool,” remarked a third.

A fourth said: “Daisy Edgar-Jones and Joseph Quinn are the same person, I can’t be convinced otherwise.”

A sixth tweeted: “Do you think Paul Mescal looked at Joseph Quinn while filming Gladiator 2 and thought he was Daisy Edgar-Jones.”

“Joseph Quinn and Daisy Edgar-Jones could play twins and I would believe it,” said another.

Paul takes on the lead role of Lucius in the long-awaited sequel to the 2000 blockbuster Gladiator alongside Joseph.

Also starring in the epic, scheduled for release on November 14, are Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen, among others.

Paul first rose to fame alongside Daisy in a hugely popular television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People.
