After FBI: International Undercover Operation Gone Wrong, Christina Wolfe Opens Up About Tate’s ‘Hunger’ and Her Reaction to Wes’ Offer

Warning: spoilers are ahead for episode 4 of FBI: International Season 4, titled “The Unwinnable War.”

FBI: International offers actions on a weekly basis since its return in the fall TV schedule 2024 with a first one that looked like a pilotbut Amanda Tate isn’t usually the one to risk her life to close a case. That wasn’t the case in “The Unwinnable War,” where Tate’s skill set was needed in the field, which involved going undercover to get close to a very dangerous man…and she s ‘came closer than Wes expected. However, he made her an offer at the end of the episode that could have changed everything, and the actress Christina Wolfe spoke with CinemaBlend about Tate’s decision, his “hunger” and what could change.

In “The Unwinnable War,” Tate used his technical skills and fluency in Spanish to get close to Daniel Lopez, a dirty DEA agent who could be ousted once enough evidence was gathered against him. (The episode will be available for streaming with a Paramount+ Subscription.) Unfortunately, this meant a very close call for Tate when there was no guarantee that the rest of the Fly Team could reach her in time to save her. She managed to escape, impressing Wes enough that he decided she was “made for field work” and offered her a job change. She decided against it, watching her daughter play with Tank.

When I spoke with Christina Wolfe about Tate’s first venture into the field since a one-off appearance in Season 3, I asked if her character was tempted by Wes’s offer despite his quick refusal, and the actress shared:

I think she’s tempted, but at the end of this thing, by the time he finds her and offers to go into the field, in that moment she’s just grateful to be back with her daughter , lucky to be alive. At this time, she does not feel ready to make this transition. She took this position because she wanted to prove that she was capable of working in the field, and she did, so I think she feels satisfied and grateful to have this position in the office which is more on. Plus, she really excels in the office with her beloved technology and team of analysts. (laughs)

Considering Tate was spending a nice day outside with her daughter shortly after nearly being strangled to death by a dirty DEA agent, it’s not hard to see why she feels luckier to be in life only excited to return to the field. This doesn’t mean the agent intends to always stay at Fly Team HQ while the others dodge bullets on the field. Wolfe continued:

She knows herself deep down. Even though she says she’s happy where she is, she is happy for the moment, and she knows that her impulsive side and her thirst to prove herself and achieve more is still alive somewhere.

Not being ready to start flying across Europe to catch criminals on a weekly basis doesn’t mean Tate isn’t feeling the impact of Wes’ offer. This is a very big compliment coming from a a man who was a cop for ten years before rising through the ranks of the FBI SSA. So, did her success in the field and getting this offer boost her confidence to potentially become a field agent? Wolfe explained:

Absolutely. This is the second time she has excelled in the field, and she feels a sense of pride in not necessarily having all the training, but she is quick and adapts very quickly to situations. So I think she becomes more and more confident as the cases go on.

She’s certainly gained confidence, even if she had to cross an FBI line to get close to Lopez. She got into more imminent trouble than her future testimony when she was trapped in the dirty DEA agent’s apartment, leading to a fight sequence that could have ended in Tate’s death if she didn’t didn’t continue to fight the pain and hit him over the head with a heavy bottle. Wolfe talked about filming some action sequences for this episode, saying:

I love doing stunts and fight work. It’s a whole new dimension for the character to develop, and we’re so lucky to have a really incredible stunt team, a stunt coordinator, Ken Barefield, who I loved working with. They are so talented that not only can they sell it and make it so dramatic and believable, but they are also very good at teaching it to you and breaking it down into small, manageable parts. And then they do all the hard parts! (laughs) Really, it’s like the perfect combination. I really enjoy these scenes.

Wes Mitchell has already had more action in his four episodes of FBI: International than Amanda Tate since she joined season 3, although Jesse Lee Soffer brought a decade of Chicago Police waterfall experience on his new show. Wolfe’s chances to film fights have been rarer, and I told the actress I loved seeing Tate get a good hit on Lopez to save his own life. She accepted and replied:

Yes, exactly! She defends herself on this. She’s not a damsel in distress at all, and I like that about her.

Only time will tell if and when Tate will be ready to return to the field, but there’s still plenty of time. FBI: International Season 4.
