Miami murder trial continues, judge orders defendant not to speak to media

MIAMI – During the second day of Courtney Britton’s murder trial, the jury saw physical evidence, including the murder weapon.

Britton is charged with the murder of Joshua Caraballo and the attempted murder of Robert Fulton in April 2021.

Read in Spanish.

According to Britton, who spoke with Local 10 News Tuesday eveninghis gold chain was stolen near Tiny’s Liquors on Northwest 22nd Avenue in Miami.

“He shoves it harder into my chest, that’s how I know it was a gun,” Britton said. “He said, ‘Give me all your shit,’ and took off the chain I had.”

That’s when Britton said he got a gun himself.

“I draw and fire a bullet,” he said.

Britton’s defense team said the shot was a warning, but it ended up hitting both men.

The state said when the victim initiated the shooting, the shooting was not self-defense, but rather a rage-filled shooting.

On Thursday, Detective Chris Villano showed the jury the victim’s gold chain, gun and bloody clothing.

Villano explained to the jury the investigative process and how the evidence was obtained and preserved.

Britton was emotional at times in court. His legal team said he had no intention of killing anyone and feared for his life.

Before the trial began, the judge ordered Britton not to speak to any media as part of his conditions of house arrest following the Local 10 interview.

She said her interview surprised the court.

Britton says he plans to testify.

If convicted, he faces life in prison.
