Fox Sports Won’t Punish Michael Strahan After National Anthem Controversy

Michael Strahan will not face any sanctions or fines from Fox Sports after the former great and current Giants analyst received a lot of heat for not putting his hand over his heart during the national anthem .

During a “Fox NFL Sunday” special in honor of Veterans Day from Naval Base San Diego, Strahan was seen with his fingers crossed near his waist while his colleagues on the panel all had their hands over their hearts.

Although Strahan was only seen briefly on the show at the time this happened, it was enough to spark criticism on social media from some who viewed the gesture as unpatriotic.

A source told the Daily Mail On Monday, there “will not be any sort of punishment or fine against Michael” and the person described the noise as “an internet controversy.”

Strahan’s colleagues have come to his defense, and Strahan himself has deep ties to the military through his father, who spent 23 years in the U.S. Army and was a member of the decorated 82nd Airborne Division.

Strahan may address the controversy later, although there is some hesitation because “he almost doesn’t want to address the controversy to give it more life,” the source reported, according to the Daily Mail.

“Michael wants Veterans Day to be for the men and women who deserve it and deserve praise, so joining the conversation in this way and prolonging the talk about what people think he was doing would not make service to what this day means,” the source said.

“Michael was in the moment and in no way opposed to the moment. This was an internet controversy he never thought about starting,” the source later told the outlet.

Strahan has not directly addressed the situation since it took its own life on Sunday.

He posted a tribute to his father, Major Gene W. Strahan Sr., on social media that included a photo of his father in his military uniform.

“Thank you to all the veterans and active military who bravely risk their lives to protect us every day,” Strahan wrote. “Your selfless service is beyond measure. He’s my hero, he’s also my father, Major Gene W. Strahan, Sr.”

He added: “Just as I honor my father, I keep you all in my thoughts every day, because we would not have the security and freedoms we cherish without you. THANKS.”
