In southern Vietnam, this family’s car-topped gate really turns heads

A family in Dong Nai province, southern Vietnam, caused a stir in the online community by placing an old car high up in front of their house as a souvenir.

On Friday, a representative of the People’s Committee of Long Binh district of Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province, said he had urged the owner to remove the four-seater car in question from the top of his gate to ensure safety .

Earlier, social media had shared images of an old green four-seater car placed precariously atop a gate, about three to four meters off the ground, close to a residential road.

Behind it was the car owner’s house.

The house in question belongs to Pham Anh Duc, 50, who resides in Ward 2 of Long Binh district.

Duc moved from the north-central province of Ha Tinh to Dong Nai province when he was young.

The car has been in his family for 20 years.

After buying a new car, Duc decided not to sell the old one but to keep it as a souvenir.

However, due to limited parking spaces, he rented a car lift and placed the car on the roof of the gate.

To ensure safety, Duc built an iron frame under the car to secure it.

“It’s a family heirloom and a keepsake, so I keep it as a souvenir and I don’t sell it,” Duc explained.

The unusual display attracted a crowd, many stopping to take photos and share them online, creating a buzz within the community.

While most people found it fascinating, some expressed concerns about the safety of passersby.

A representative of the Long Binh Neighborhood People’s Committee said they had sent officials to persuade the family to remove the car for safety reasons.

“There are currently no regulations requiring its removal, so the neighborhood came to persuade the owner to take the car down to avoid attracting crowds and causing unrest,” the representative said.

In discussions with local authorities, Duc’s family explained that the car had been on the roof for almost a year and only the shell remained, with the engine removed before being placed higher up.

After the authorities intervened, the family agreed to lower the car.
