JMU Announces Unified NIL Program, “Honors1”

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – In an effort to improve name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities for its student-athletes, the James Madison Athletic Department announced the launch of “Honors1.”

“The Honors1 program is a critical part of our rise to James Madison Athletics becoming a thriving program in this ever-changing college sports landscape,” JMU Athletics Director Matt Roan said in a press release. “The comprehensive nature of this program truly allows our student-athletes to maximize their overall experience and potential at James Madison University, and specifically the value of their name, image and likeness.”

JMU says the program aims to unify and streamline NIL opportunities for JMU student-athletes by connecting them with key stakeholders, such as businesses and organizations.

The name “Honors1” is inspired by a phrase from JMU’s Fight song, “Fight for Glory, Honors Won,” symbolizing the commitment to recognizing and honoring student-athletes.

Key elements of the program include the launch of JMU Dukes Trade. This will help connect student-athletes directly with companies for NIL agreements. It is designed to facilitate transactions, communications and legal agreements.

The program will expand the school’s partnership with the Collectif de Montpellier. the organization that helps provide NIL opportunities to JMU athletes by promoting charitable initiatives.
