Shootings in Chicago this weekend: at least 11 shots fired, including 2 fatal, in gun violence across the city, police say

The Chicago Police Department and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability are investigating a officer-involved shooting This happened Saturday morning in the north of the city.

Officers exchanged gunfire with an armed suspect after responding to the scene of an earlier shooting, police said.

A 39-year-old victim was shot around 9:35 a.m. while walking in the 2600 block of West Farwell Avenue, Chicago police said. An armed attacker approached the victim from behind and shot him in the shoulder. Police and paramedics arrived while neighbors in the area immediately came to the victim’s aid while the suspect fled.

Around 9:55 a.m., the 23-year-old offender came out of an alley and fired at officers and paramedics, police said. The suspect continued to exchange gunfire with officers for about two minutes, Chicago police officials said.

The offender was shot multiple times by officers in the 6800 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, police said. Officers rendered aid to the man and he was transported to a local hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

The 39-year-old victim was treated for his gunshot wound and released from the hospital, police said. The gender and identity of the victim were not immediately known.

No police officers or CFD members were injured during the incident, CPD said. No further information was immediately available. The CPD and COPA are continuing their investigation.
