When we all test positive

Franco Colapinto joked about the pungent smell of marijuana at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, with the Williams driver saying if the drivers had been tested after testing it would have been a “mess”.

Formula 1 is racing at Sin City for the second time, but while last year it was loose pipe covers that ruined practice, this year it was the weeds.

Franco Colapinto: When we all test positive, it will be a mess

Marijuana is one of several substances Formula 1 drivers are banned from using under the FIA Anti-Doping Regulations issued by the sport’s governing body.

Colapinto joked that it would be a “mess” if the drivers were tested in Nevada.

“There was a smell of marijuana,” the Argentine driver said after training. “If they drug the drivers now, I think we will all test positive.

“When we are all positive, it will be chaos.”

Sergio Perez was also not happy with the strong smell in the air, saying DAZN that it was something the drivers should discuss with the FIA.

“What is very noticeable around the track is the smell of marijuana,” he said. “I’m already fed up. The amount is incredible.

“It’s something that all drivers will definitely talk about.”

Fans attending the Las Vegas Grand Prix are prohibited from bringing drugs onto the track, however, weed is legal in Nevada.

Although F1’s testing policy is not often discussed, Max Verstappen received a complaint earlier this year when he woke up early on Friday morning at the Dutch Grand Pix for a doping test.

“I had a great morning this morning,” the Red Bull driver revealed on a Twitch stream. “So I’m in bed and suddenly the doorbell rings.

“I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’ Who the hell rings the campervan doorbell? And then I look at my phone, it’s 7 o’clock (in the morning) and I’m like, “What’s going on?”

“So I go to the door, open the door and, yes, doping control! At 7am! I said to myself “great, what a great start to the weekend!” » Then it took me an hour to go to the toilet, so that was fantastic too.

He added: “I don’t know why, but this year I’ve already been tested five times, which I think is a lot in F1.”
