Israeli army allegedly used Palestinians to enter trapped buildings and homes in Gaza, an anonymous soldier said in an interview with CNN last Thursday.

The soldier, who was connected to CNN through the left-wing NGO Breaking the Silence, told CNN that his unit held two Palestinian prisoners and allegedly used them as human shields to penetrate and probe potentially dangerous locations in Gaza. The soldier also claimed that this use of Palestinians was common among Israeli units operating in the Gaza Strip.

The extent of this practice, according to the CNN report, is not explicitly known, but the news agency cited the soldier and five former Palestinian detainees as saying the practice was commonly used in areas such as northern Israel. Gaza, Gaza City, Khan Yunis and Rafah.
