The world’s best furniture design comes to Hong Kong at Salone del Mobile

Looking for home decor inspiration? This month, the Arts Pavilion in West Kowloon Cultural District will host two back-to-back furniture exhibitions highlighting some of the proudest achievements of Hong Kong and international designers.

The first is the “Hong Kong Design Annex” exhibition, conceptualized and curated by Vincent Lim and Elaine Lu, owners of Lim + Lu, a Hong Kong interior design company.

Presented the first week of November, this exhibition of furniture and lighting is a “prequel” to an exhibition at the famous Salone del Mobile in Milan, “SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024”, which will take place in the same space from 11 to 21 november. , Lim said.

Both exhibitions are curated in part by architect Winnie Yue, founder of the Designworks Foundation and the International Design Furniture Fair Hong Kong, and fully funded by the Hong Kong Government’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau , although none of them are considered “mega-event”, said Yue.

Hong Kong may not be as synonymous with design as Italy, but it is home to a growing number of versatile architects and designers who create unique pieces that reflect the city’s cultural diversity, Lim says.

“There aren’t many dedicated furniture and lighting designers in Hong Kong. But there is a trend toward multidisciplinary design practices. Just as (Ludwig) Mies van der Rohe and the Bauhaus school designed everything, many Hong Kong designers who focus on interiors also design furniture and lighting,” he says.
