What Travis Hunter told Nick Saban about the Heisman campaign

Travis Hunter’s playmaking ability has defined college football this season, drawing attention with his extraordinary versatility on both ends of the field. Known for thrilling fans by catching touchdowns or shutting down opponents defensively, Hunter’s dual-threat talent has positioned him as a serious contender for the Heisman Trophy.

Last week, however, fans didn’t see him in action due to Colorado’s second bye week. But Hunter didn’t just sit back: He embarked on a “world tour” of sorts, making a high-profile appearance at ESPN’s College GameDay and the FOX Big Noon Kickoff in Happy Valley before the n No. 3 Penn State lost to No. 4 Ohio State. .

At GameDay, the panel of hosts lightly welcomed Hunter as the Heisman favorite. The Buffs star shared some glimpses into his life off the field, recounting a recent fishing trip with Deion Sanders in Texas. Reflecting on that breakup, Hunter highlighted the special father-son dynamic he has with Sanders, noting that their bond played an important role in his growth both as a player and as a person.

Hunter also received notable support from Nick Saban. The former Alabama coach candidly asked Hunter about his approach to the demanding schedule of a dual-role player, explaining that he had seen many talented players with the potential to go both ways, but that he had never managed to translate it into game scenarios. Saban asked, “How do you prepare every week to play both ways?”

Hunter’s response revealed his pro mentality. He starts each week with a minimum of ten hours of film study and offensive training with unwavering dedication and he gives it his all, whether he’s on offense or defense. “I give 100%, no matter who is in front of me, and I’m not going to get tired,” he said confidently, emphasizing his relentless focus and commitment.
