Latest Mock Shows Hawks Taking Two Talented Big Men to Help Bolster Depth

We’re only a month into the NBA season and while there’s a lot to happen between now and April, it’s never too early to get a glimpse of what the season might look like. NBA draft. For the Atlanta Hawks, they could be looking at up to two picks in the upcoming draft and a chance to add to the young core that has Trae Young, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson and Zacharie Risacher. These four players appear to be the core of the Hawks’ future and they might need to be, as Atlanta doesn’t control their own draft capital until 2028. They owe the Spurs their next three picks and they’re trying to navigate this reality in the coming months. years. In 2025, Atlanta owns the Kings’ 1st round pick if not in the top 12 and owns the Lakers’ unprotected pick.

So with these two picks, who could the Hawks target? In the last 2025 simulation projectBleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman has the Hawks taking two forwards with the 14th pick (Kings) and 25th pick (Lakers):

Team: Georgia

Position: PF/C

Height: 6’11”, 220 lbs

Age: 19 years old

Nationality: United States

Professional comparisons: Jalen Smith

“Asa Newell ate around the rim, finishing plays by moving from the dunker spot and breaking the offensive glass. His length, mobility and motor skills translated into easy baskets and disruptive defense.

NBA teams possibly interested in him will appreciate the interior activity and productivity he will bring off the ball. He has yet to connect from three, and it seems like consistent shooting will be more of a long-term goal to bet on. But he shot well at Montverde and clearly has confidence thanks to the first attempts and the go-ahead.

There will be many more suitors interested in a big, energetic, versatile defender if there is a belief that he can eventually stretch the floor on a regular basis. »

Team: Arizona

Position: SF/PF

Height: 6’8″, 220 lbs

Age: 18 years old

Nationality: United States

Professional Comparison: Marcus Morris

“At 6’8”, 220 pounds with perimeter shooting skills, athletic finishing and defensive quickness, Carter Bryant clearly has the talent and looks of an NBA forward.

He’s going to go through some quiet times this season for a veteran Arizona team. He may not give the team a singular, polished skill set, but the physical tools and scoring versatility should keep scouts patient. »

These are two interesting picks and give the Hawks valuable depth up front. The Hawks do not have a backup forward at the moment and unless Mouhamed Gueye takes a big step forward this year, the Hawks should look to draft or sign one. Newell fits that mold well, as does Bryant.

One position to watch for Atlanta will be center. Clint Capela and Larry Nance both have expiring contracts and Onyeka Okongwu has not returned to the starting role. This isn’t a good draft for centers, but the Hawks might consider drafting one or trading one of their picks for one.
