THE New York Yankees avoided a sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgersbut was unable to force the series back to the opposite coast.

Los Angeles won the World Series on Wednesday with a 7-6 victory, coming back from 5-0 down in the fifth inning after a disastrous defensive display by New York.

Despite a good game on the mound from starter Gerrit Cole, the Yankees failed to continue advancing toward their 28th World Series title.

The Dodgers gave veteran right-hander Jack Flaherty the nod, but he was pulled in the second inning as Dave Roberts again moved between his bullpen, eventually ending with star starter Walker Buehler closing out the game .
