Emergency as police negotiate with man inside home in Urangan, Queensland

A state of emergency declared after police negotiated with a man inside a home has been revoked.

Police attended an address on Hood Street in Urangan, in Queensland’s Fraser Coast region, just before 3am on Friday for a welfare check.

Upon arrival, officers began negotiations with a man residing at the address.

An emergency declaration was made under the Preservation of Public Safety Act (PSPA) at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Hood Street, Esplanade, Marine Court and Pulgul Street are included in the declaration, with people inside the exclusion zone asked to stay indoors until further notice.

Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area, with traffic diversions in place.

Paramedics were on standby at 8am on Friday, but a spokesperson confirmed “no patients required an assessment at this time”.

It was revoked at 11:30 a.m.

No further information was provided.
