THE Philadelphia Phillies should already have a plan for Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez. Although keeping both would be the best outcome, it may not be realistic, so the club should be prepared to keep at least one.

It will be interesting to see which direction they take if given the choice, as Estevez has more depth of experience. Conversely, Hoffman was lights out for much of the campaign and has been with the Phillies longer than the right-hander they landed during the trade deadline.

Regarding Hoffman and Estevez, several suitors will be in play for their services.

Hoffman, however, is the definition of a pitcher that every contending team in baseball will want. He’s not expected to be overly expensive, and he’s already proven he can pitch in a big city with high expectations during his time in Philadelphia.

His suitors will be numerous, and some might even consider him close, because he has some experience in this area. If he was closer to full-time, his price tag would likely be higher, but a club might view him as someone moving forward.

This is why RJ Anderson of CBS Sports wrote that every team in the running is a contender for the right-hander.

“Hoffman spent two seasons with the Phillies, during which he transformed himself into an elite reliever. The damage: a 184 ERA+ and a strikeout/walk ratio of 4.51 in 122 appearances. Hoffman is estimated to be worth around $30 million, so that shouldn’t be something Philadelphia is happy to spend.

However, as Anderson mentioned, there will be suitors, and that’s often not a good thing.
