German crime comedy series Murder in full consciousness arrived on Netflix on October 31, 2024, bringing a new darkly comedic series to the streaming service. Based on the crime novel of the same name by Karsten Dusse, the television script was written by Doron Wisotzky.

Murder in full consciousness brings to life the story of Björn Diemel, a successful lawyer who becomes an unwitting murderer during a mindfulness retreat. According to Netflix, when Björn takes a mindfulness course to improve his work-life balance, he finds new ways to cope, including murder.

In the series, his wife, Katharina, gives him an ultimatum: fix his work-life balance, or she will leave with their daughter. So Björn begins this mindfulness course, and little by little he becomes calmer and begins to focus on the deeper things in life. Serenity is what Björn ultimately seems to be desperately seeking. When his family time is interrupted by one of his most brutal customers, Dragan Sergowicz, Björn solves the problem on his own; he kills the crime boss.

The show is just as faithful to the book, so anyone who has read the novel has a much better chance of enjoying the show.

Tom Schilling as Bjorn Diemel

Bjorn Diemel is a defense attorney at Murder in full consciousness who is overwhelmed by his demanding job. His client, mafia boss Dragan, constantly put pressure on him, and Bjorn was disliked for taking such risks. He moved away from his wife and missed all the beautiful moments spent with his daughter. He regretted all of this and decided to take back control of his life. He sought help from a mindfulness coach and everything changed for the better.

Tom Schilling is a German film and television actor. He began his acting career as a stage actor at the age of 12. He made his film debut in 1996 when he appeared in the series Hello, Onkel Doc!. He is best known for his roles in Crazy, before the fall And My Kampf.

Emily Cox as Katharina Diemel

Katharina Diemel is played by Emily Cox. Björn Diemel is at breaking point, strained at work and bossed around by his wife. Katharina advises her to embrace mindfulness and hire a coach to help her find harmony between work and family. However, Björn decides to spend some time away from his wife.

Pamuk Pilavci as Emily Diemel

Pamela is Emily Diemel, Bjorn’s four-year-old daughter. He loves his wife very much and after following the mindfulness session, he decides to spend his time with his daughter and never misses a special moment with her.

Sascha Alexander Gersak plays the role of Dragan Sergovic, a customer of Bjorn’s. He visits lawyer Bjorn after being arrested for assaulting and burning a henchman. Bjorn advises Dragan to keep a low profile and offers to secretly move him to a new location. Bjorn takes his daughter to Dragan’s lake house for a vacation as a tactic. He stays longer than the others without returning to his car, leaving Dragan inside for a long time. The next time he opens the trunk, he finds Dragan’s body dead from heat exhaustion.

Peter Jordan as Joschka Breitner

Björn’s doctor, Joschka Breitner, helps him find emotional stability Murder in full consciousness. He encourages Björn to face his problems but also cares about his mental health. Deepened into a life of crime and increasingly estranged from his family over time, he learns to make time for his family and allow his mind to remain in control. The doctor even offers him the logical choice of believing that his lifestyle might also be okay.

Nicole is an old friend of Bjorn in Murder in full consciousness.
