Competition held for Kentucky hunters to submit deer samples for chronic wasting disease testing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is asking hunters to submit samples of legally hunted, telemonitored deer for a chance to win one of five regional prizes.

The five regions include Bluegrass, Northeast, Southeast, Green River and Purchase. At the end of deer season, a winner from each region will be drawn. Prizes include gift cards ranging from $500 to $1,000 as well as a bow.

Hunters are automatically entered into the contest when they submit a sample for chronic wasting disease. This can be done by dropping off a deer’s head at one of the drop-off locations or by submitting a lymph node sample using a kit to send by mail. All samples must come from deer hunted in Kentucky. Hunters must follow the rules and regulations regarding deer hunting.

Hunters in the CWD monitoring area with mandatory check stations, which includes Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Marshall and McCracken counties, must still bring their deer to be checked. They will still be entered into the competition.
